Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report
Week of June 1st 2016
Fishing has been hot in the Mosquito Lagoon! Fish have been holding steady in 1-3 feet of water feeding on bait such as shrimp, crabs and fingerling mullet. Wind has been steady so finding areas of protection are the key. Finding these calmer areas allows better sight fishing, and allow the angler to make a better presentation to the feeding fishing, with out worrying about the wind moving there lure or bait during a cast. We have been hugging the islands on the east side of the lagoon and finding numerous tailing and pushing red fish. What a beautiful sight to see! Early morning tailing red fish are my favorite. After we spot the fish, we are making a along cast using a FLATS HQ Flats swimmer in the pumpkin pattern on a 1/4 oz jig head and the reds have just been crushing it! Other effective baits have been a Johnson Gold Spoon and a FLATS HQ top water plug. As the weather warms up, we will begin to see the mosquito lagoon summer fishing pattern begin. Hot days tend to mean calm, flat mornings. This most definitely aids in sight fishing. And the cooler early morning temperatures really make those fish active. This week we witnessed reds with their tails and their backs out of the water, ready to pounce on whatever swims by. I love this time of year! Tarpon are also beginning to become more active! Look for a tarpon report next week! Attached you will see pictures of the some of the fish caught on recent trips! Thank you so much for visiting gocastaway.com and reading this weeks report! Hope to have you the bow of my East Cape Skiff soon so you can come tight on a monster fish!
